RANT OF THE WEEK: Don't be indie, be yourself :)

Recently it has been bugging me how everyone seemed to be jumping on the indie bandwagon. The reason it bugs me is that it has now made indie-ness a paradox! How can you be indie, but be exactly the same as all the others that are following the indie craze?
Here is urbandictionary.com’s definition of ‘indie’ to help you understand what exactly I am talking about:
According to the dictionary, ‘indie’ is an informal version of the word independentAlthough this definition is accurate, the word has come to mean more. For many, it has come to symbolize originality and forward-thinking, especially in music and design.

By this definition, indie is any business or designer that is not associated with a large company. Indie can also define the consumer who chooses to support small business, independent record labels and handmade items rather than shopping at big-box stores.

So pretty much, indie is the opposite of mainstream - mainstream being popculture, commonly known bands, styles and designers etc. This is how it is now a paradox, everyone seems to be going for the indie lifestyle. They go out of their way to find cool, original stuff to create their own identity and end up not forming an identity for themselves at all! People get driven away from things they usually would have loved for fear that it was too unoriginal, too mainstream!

I fell into this trap too for a bit, even though I denied persistently. Buying stuff that no one else had or would ever think of getting so I could be my own person with my own taste and style! But then I realised I was actually just following a fashion trend….

So here is a summary of what I was saying: grandpa cardigans, loafers, rolled up jeans, obscure bands, introverted hangouts at tiny little pubs in weird places no one has ever heard of - all good if you actually like that sort of stuff! But if you are doing it just coz everyone else does, coz everyone else thinks it’s cool, then you are silly. And a very fail indie kid. If you want to be an individual, then just be yourself! Coz being indie is so unoriginal.

Online Shopping

Hiya!
What have you been up to today? I've been doing a heap of studying for my linguistics exam I have in a few days :) I loooooooove linguistics and I hope I do really well in it coz I want to be a magazine editor when I graduate uni!

Anyways, on my study breaks I have been doing a LOT of online shopping! So much happiness! But also so much frustration :/ so many sites dont deliver to NZ :'( and some do, but the cost for the shipping is almost as much as the super cute dress itself. Plus, those online auction sites always bring me close to tears of frustration! I was waiting for an auction to come to an end so I could make my bid and win the awesome skirt but I got distracted by youtube and missed the auction closing by LESS THAN A MINUTE :( but its ok.... I guess that's less money spent in the end....

BUT there are some online shops that are MEGA awesome :) even just to look at and dream!
These are my top 5:

5 newlook.com
If you are into cute shoes and dresses, plus dont mind paying a liiiittle bit extra for postage, this website is a pretty good place to start! Decent shipping options, ranging from free postage to 10 pounds, shouldnt really put you off buying this stuff :) Prices range from around 2 pounds to 150 pounds, but there are definitely some bargain buys available!

4 mycatwalk.com.au

This one is backwards to the usual online shopping problem! Instead of having cheap clothes and super expensive shipping, the shipping isn't too bad -  only AUD$8.25 (for slower delivery) - but the designer brands (One Teaspoon, Stolen Girlfriends Club, Zimmerman) are quite expensive! Pretty much everything is over $100, but if you have been saving up and are in the mood to splurge, then this is the place to do it :D

3 urbanoutfitters.com
Such an awesome website for online shopping! So much stuff to choose from, but shipping to NZ and other international deliveries starts at $30 :( MAJOR putoff! But, they have some super bargains on the website! Tops from like US$5, accessories from as little as $3! Except then you feel a bit stupid spending $5 on clothes and $30 on shipping.... but oh well, what can you do? They have awesome designers like Jeffrey Campbell for shoes, BDG and Cheap Monday for clothing etc so you should still check them out, even if it is just to dream or get inspiration :)

modcloth.com

Modcloth is a very cute website that sells a bunch of vintage clothes, shoes, accessories and decor stuff! Shipping rates vary depending on item, so if its a big item like a jacket it costs around $20, but if its small like a shirt it can cost around $5 to NZ! Very decent!

1 asos.com

If you haven't already heard of/visited the asos website, then wow you have been missing out! By far the best online shopping website in the world, with FREE INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING! If that is not incentive enough to get you buying, then you obviously have not checked out the awesome sales they have and the enormous range of shoes, clothes, accessories etc! So much stuff to choose from you can never get sick of it :D

Well, if after reading all that you aren't super keen to do some online shopping then I obviously am no good at fashion blogging :P Check em out! Tell me what you think/what your fave websites are/what you've bought!!!!

Crazy Cool Shoes!

Hey babes ;) what's the haps?

Been browsing a whole bunch of SHOES today on all my study breaks (which probably add up to more time spent browsing than studying but oh well!) and I have found a few that totally rock!!!!

I should probably mention that I work at a shoe and apparel shop called WildPair and I luuuurve it. We sell a whole bunch of really cool shoes from brands such as Siren, Orbit, ROC, Luichiny, Verali etc. If you haven't heard of these brands then.... awks :3 but they are cool so yeah! Check out the website if you want to know what I'm talking about: www.wildpair.co.nz

COOL! Now on to the shoes I was talking about. I'm a big fan of different if you haven't already noticed, so I love shoes that not everyone has the guts to wear. So maybe you won't like the ones that I like, but this is MY blog so there :P

These are a couple of shoes that I found on Sidewalk Soul's fb page (https://www.facebook.com/SidewalkSoul) and it turns out we sell the same shoes and brands at Wildpair so I just thought I would share some with you!

'Sight' by Verali

These babies are surprisingly comfortable if you can get used to the extra 10cm of height they will undoubtedly give you, plus the large platform and bright colour really attracts attention to your feet.

'Miele' by Ashleigh Jacob

I actually have no idea why I love these shoes so much! I think its coz they achieve the whole wooden look found in clogs (which some people love and others despise) but they kind of look a bit cooler than just a  slipper made of wood. The brown leather wrap around straps are sooooo awesome, and I can just imagine how beautiful they would look with a pair of off-white frilled socks.

'Partido' by Marila

OHHHHMYGOSH can you imagine how comfortable it would be walking around in these at the marketplace by the beach?!?! And if you're not a fan of the red, it comes in other colours too :)

'Viola' by Lilimill

How cool are these?!? I have never seen anyone wear shoes like these before and I soooo want to see what they look like on people! I love it how it somehow manages to be a sandal, but not really a sandal at the same time! So weird but so cool!

Ok I really should be getting back to studying now, I have an exam tomorrow morning!!!
Which is your fave shoe out of the ones above??
Comment and tellllll me!

Style stalked

Hey guys, how's it going?
Today has been a day of FULL ON STUDYING so now it is time for me to take a break and do some blogging/browsing/fb-ing :]

I've been checking out some extra awesome fashion blogs/websites. This has to be my favourite! Stylestalker is a fashion blog that has its own range of fashion AND I WANT IT ALL!! So much beauty and elegance but also uniqueness in every outfit, and thats exactly what I want to wear this summer.

Here are some pics of a few of my faves:

Venice Beach Dress

Awesome fading and I just love how totally unique it is with the shape and style.

Venom Shirt

You will soon discover I am a mega chiffon fan. The flow of the chiffon plus the fearlessness of the snake print in this shirt just complete the suave and sassy look I am loving right now.

There She Goes Playsuit

Also seen in Harper & Harley fashion blog:

Pretty much a breathtaking playsuit that will make you feel elegant and playful at the same time. And I didn't even think that was possible.

Well, there you go!
You can check out all these stunning clothes and accessories and more at the website www.stylestalker.com.

Take a peek even if the clothing is a bit out of your price range - hey, this isn't called Day Dreamer's Space for nothing :)
